Otoplasty: What to Expect

Every successful reconstructive surgery begins with an initial consultation. Dr. Edgar Santos will take a thorough medical history and learn more about you, your overall health, your skin characteristics, and other factors.

Dr. Santos will examine the structure of your ears and discuss possibilities for correcting the problems. In general, children's ear cartilage is more flexible and easier to reshape than
of adults.

Dr. Santos will photograph you so he can study your face and ears. He will also review any medical concerns that may affect the surgery, such as high blood pressure, tendency to scar, smoking, and any problems with blood clotting.

If you decide to proceed with otoplasty, Dr. Santos will review the recommended technique, surgical center, anesthesia, other procedures, possible complications and costs.

Ear shaping surgery

Flexible headbands are sometimes recommended to keep the ears in the desired position for two weeks after surgery.
