Elements to consider
Facelift surgery is a complex procedure that Dr. Santos customizes to your specific needs. During your consultation, Dr. Santos begins by taking photographs of your face. In fact, he typically takes a few photographs during your appointment to help him develop your surgical plan.
Additionally, during your online consultation, you will discuss your lifestyle, medical history, and aesthetic goals, both short- and long-term. Please note that facelift surgery is typically indicated for the lower two-thirds of the face. This means that it is best suited to address issues specific to this area, including:
- Jowl
- Sagging and laxity along the jaw.
- Flattened cheeks
- Lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth.
- Unwanted or displaced fat deposits
Don't hesitate to bring a trusted friend or family member to your consultation. Since there is a lot to discuss at this initial appointment, it may be helpful to have an additional person present to remind you of details you may overlook.
Your Facelift
Dr. Santos performs facelift surgery while you are under general anesthesia. He begins by making small incisions around your ears and potentially behind your hairline. The exact position of these incisions depends on your aesthetic goals and the significance of your surgery. Dr. Santos discusses your surgical plan with you well in advance of your facelift so you know exactly what to expect.
Once the incisions are made, Dr. Santos removes and repositions the tissue according to the surgical plan you develop together.
Depending on the details of your surgery, your facelift may include fat grafting to add volume to depleted areas of your face.
Toward the end of the surgery, he takes extensive measurements to assess the symmetry of your face before closing the incisions.
Recovering at home
A facelift is an outpatient procedure, but you will need a loved one to drive you home and stay with you for the rest of the day. Because the head is a very vascular area of the body, it is normal to experience a moderate amount of bruising and swelling.
Discomfort can be controlled with prescription medications, and keeping your head elevated, even at night, can help further reduce swelling.
You can expect to return to work after about 2 weeks, although you may need a little more time if your facelift was extensive or if your job is physically demanding.
During your follow-up appointments, Dr. Santos evaluates your progress and gives you a more specific timeline for returning.
to other daily activities.
Long-term results
Practicing good sun protection habits and avoiding significant weight fluctuations can go a long way toward preserving results for years to come.
While a facelift can delay your appearance by several years, it is important to remember that it does not freeze the aging process. Over time, the clock will continue to tick and you will gradually notice the delayed appearance of natural wrinkles and folds.
